Maybe next time they will just leave the copy protection out and save everyone a world of trouble.

The idea is to cut off the stragglers... people who can't figure out how to circumvent copy protection or google it really. It's the people burning copies from friends and then just trying to play it is who they target I think... they might not get 100% but they might get 50%, and that's why it's worthwhile.

Grummbo - The entire idea is just retarded and it's just going to cause trouble for legitimate users while no trouble whatsoever for pirates.

Limiting the usability of a product through connectivity to a service that is not always dependable/available is just plain freaking stupid. This DRM requires an internet connection to be active while you play, if your connection drops your game exits. Hell, with this DRM your save games aren't even stored on your pc, they are uploaded to a Ubisoft server and you have to download them whenever you want to play. If the server goes down your game is unplayable.

What if the net is down? What if you don't have the net at all? What if your on a laptop with no wireless or broadband? The game just became $90 worth of dead space on your HDD and the DVD a rather fancy Frisbee.

I didn't read the article, and that is pretty intense, but really, who doesn't have internet 99% of the time... and we're pretty good at keeping servers up what with redundancy. They know the risk they're taking, and they've decided it's worthwhile.

Plus I like the idea of savegames on the cloud, everytime I format it's a nightmare... why not have it all online. It seems to be the way things are heading

I've heard a saying before : "the best way to combat Piracy is to put a low price" and I still agree with that guy. downloadable pay content or putting promotion on the game is a good way to earn income without bothering player too much. if you are paying expensively for a game, you are expecting to play it without a hitch, not getting a DRM system that you don't know what they would do to your system. remember StarForce ?

see how many piracy-prevention system the industry have tried. and as far as I know, none of them was left unbroken. in the end, it is the legitimate user that is having a problem or two in the end...

DRM to me is just a "delay-piracy" system. it would be broken through. maybe in a month, maybe in a day. and if you tell everybody "okay, we released a new great game, you can buy it now for $100+ and a chance of not being able to play it or somehow screwed up your system. or you can get it freely online in a month fully playable" I guess the answer is bloody obvious :p

the devs for Bioshock set up their DRM to ensure it wouldn't be broken by release, as far as i know, despite all the problems it was successful in that right

and so is Assassin creed with the so called "Jerusalem Bug" and multiple piracy-activated-bug in Batman Gotham Asylum (I forget the full title). as of bioshock, as far as I know its been broken a long time ago. not right on the day when it was released, but broken nonetheless. and where the legitimate user are left with activation DRM and all, the illegitimate user still can play without any of those bonus software in several month.

    HAHAHAHAHA

With Ubisoft's fantastically awful new DRM you must be online and logged in to their servers to play the games you buy. Not only was this DRM broken the very first day it was released, but now their authentication servers have failed so absolutely that no-one who legally bought their games can play them. 'At around 8am GMT, people began to complain in the Assassin's Creed 2 forum that they couldn't access the Ubisoft servers and were unable to play their games.' One can only hope that this utter failure will help to stem the tide of bad DRM."

    Default Another problem

Another problem is that I use the family computer and when ever we go over our supposedly "unlimited" usage out Internet connection speed slows down dramatically and I don't want to wait ages for my saved game to download just to play a single player campaign
